Marcello Mastroianni and Giulietta Masina appear together in a Fellini movie for the first time, and a spectacle is in order. The pair play impersonators of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers brought out of retirement for a television variety show complete with Clark Gable and Rita Hayworth lookalikes and guest appearances by a handsome mafia boss and an inventor of edible underwear. The two old-timers share a tender reunion and lament the loss of the past in this biting satire of television culture.
