Made in Cinecittà’s studios in Rome, this lavish, extravagant portrait of Giacomo Casanova (Doanld Sutherland), the 18th-century Venetian adventurer, writer, and womanizer, is a feast for the eyes, a work that earned Danilo Donati an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. The hollowness of the lead character stands in sharp contrast to his sumptuous surroundings and the overall visual excess of the film.
