Wonder. 2017. USA. Directed by Stephen Chbosky. Screenplay by Chbosky, Steven Conrad, Jack Thorne. With Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay. DCP. 113 min.
August Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) doesn’t want to start fifth grade, and if he has to, he’ll be wearing an astronaut helmet. Born with facial differences, Perks of Being a Wallflower director Stephen Chbosky tenderly captures the day-to-day existence of Auggie, of a boy trying his best to fit in. Anchored by strong performances by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as Auggie’s parents, this adaptation of R. J. Palacio’s 2012 novel is a testament to unconditional love and acceptance.
