Isle of Dogs. 2018. USA. Written and directed by Wes Anderson. With Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum. DCP. 101 min.
Wes Anderson’s second animated feature (following 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox), is a Japan-set journey with a pack of dogs infected with “snout fever.” After the mayor of Megasaki City banishes all dogs to Trash Island, a young boy named Atari steals a plane and flies to the island in search of his four-legged best friend. Anderson is never more visually exacting than in his stop-motion animated worlds, and he delights here in the details: canine fur blowing in the breeze, cherry blossom leaves fluttering to the ground, and an immaculate sushi-making sequence.
