From his time at the heart of the Civil Rights movement, to his many terms as a congressman, Dawn Porter’s documentary chronicles the life and impact of John Lewis. Pieced together from interviews and gripping archival footage, John Lewis: Good Trouble is able to stay generously close to its subject, providing a satisfyingly straightforward meditation on a life committed to fighting injustice in its many forms. Lewis died just days after the film’s release, charging Dawn Porter’s documentary with the mandate of carrying forward his legacy and spirit. Its success in this immense task makes John Lewis: Good Trouble an essential record for future generations of activists. 96 min.
