This modern American classic charts one chaotic, sun-drenched Christmas Eve in the lives of best friends and sex workers Alexandra (Mya Taylor) and Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) as they tear across Hollywood looking for Sin-Dee’s cheating boyfriend. Through their frenetic odyssey they must reckon with their splintering friendship, harassment, and dreams of the future. The film is perhaps best remembered for director Sean Baker’s humanist depiction of trans sex workers and its small-scale iPhone production, but the real legacy here is Taylor and Rodriguez’s performances, delivered with engrossing realness and wit.
