Sisters! 2020. USA. Directed by Nicole Emanuele. Screenplay by Beth Hoyt. 10 min.
Sisters are women that share parents. Sisters are women that commit a monastic devotion to God. Sisters can be supportive architectural beams. A homologous pair of genetics are sisters. Sister cities, sister companies, sister wives. This Sisters! is a short film about the mystery of human connection.
Specifically, it’s about Molly and Dee, a nun and a makeup artist, as they wait for a bus they both desperately need to arrive. The discovery that they are both wearing Chico State t-shirts—neither is an alum, both were thrifted—is only the beginning of their connection. Their new friendship inspires them to take the leaps they were too afraid to before, including a haircut, a dance, and a podcast. For these two women, and for the viewer, these are unforgettable celebrations.
Nicole Emanuele and Beth Hoyt received a 2020 The Future of Film Is Female post-production grant with Nice Shoes for Sisters!.
