The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. 1974. USA. Directed by John Korty. Screenplay by Tracy Keenan Wynn, based on the novel by Ernest T. Gaines. With Cicely Tyson, Richard Dysart, Rod Perry. 110 min.
On the occasion of what might be her 110th birthday, Miss Pittman, who lives in a remote Southern town, is approached by a New York reporter to tell the story of her remarkable life. Miss Jane can’t quite understand why anyone would be interested in “those days,” but she recounts the many unique moments of her life, from her slave experiences as a child during the Civil War right up through the Civil Rights movement of the 20th century. Cicely Tyson won the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama for her role as the irrepressible Miss Jane Pittman. Digital file
