Two old buddies who have fallen out of touch get together for an impromptu camping trip. While few words are exchanged and nothing about their past is revealed, Kelly Reichardt’s simple, unassuming second feature delivers magical, transcendent moments of meditation on life and the passage of time. An uncompromising figure in American independent film, Reichardt has remained resolute in her choice of material and style. Her cinema is profound but not showy, minimalist yet rich in detail and ideas.
