Screenplay by Buñuel, Jean-Claude Carrière, “inspired by” Pierre Louÿs’s 1898 novel The Woman and the Puppet. With Fernando Rey, Carole Bouquet, Ángela Molina. In French, Spanish; English subtitles. 103 min.

Buñuel’s last film goes up in flames, literally, in a destructive (or procreative?) act of terrorism, the climax of rich widower Fernando Rey’s exquisitely tortured pursuit of the devilishly elusive “Concha” (played, alternately, by Carole Bouquet and Angela Molina).
