Stir Crazy. 1980. USA. Directed by Sidney Poitier. Screenplay by Bruce Jay Friedman. With Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor, Georg Stanford Brown. 35mm. 111 min.
Skip, an out of work playwright, and his equally luckless buddy Harry, an unemployed actor, believe going West will improve their fortunes. Instead, they’re framed for a bank robbery and sentenced to a long stay in a Western prison, where these Easterners are truly fish out of water. Their attempts to make the best of the worst situation are totally outrageous, but then, so are they. This reteaming of Wilder and Pryor, first seen together in Silver Streak (1976), is a riot of a buddy movie.
