Joey Drayton invites her new beau, accomplished medical researcher John Prentice, to her family’s home to meet her parents. The Draytons are cordial, but when it becomes clear he intends to marry their daughter, the temperature in the room changes. Despite being the publisher of a liberal newspaper, Joey’s father finds he needs to give the coupling a great deal of consideration before giving his blessing. Despite their virtuous intentions, the Draytons face the realization that one needs to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
