The Hungarian writer-director Márta Mészáros, one of the great underappreciated filmmakers of the past half-century, is represented with the Hungarian National Film Archive’s new restoration of The Two of Them, Mészáros’s semi-documentary about the friendship between two women of different classes and their difficult marriages, starring the wonderful French actress Marina Vlady and the Russian singer-actor Vladimir Vysotsky.
