One of the fathers of commedia all’Italia in the 1950s, Mario Monicelli teamed with Ugo Tognazzi in 1973 on the political farce We Want the Colonels (screening on December 26 and 29), and then the following year on this corruscating gem about sexual jealousy and class envy, a film that Monicelli himself described as “a bitter investigation into the conditions of workers in a large metropolis like Milan.”
