Although early cinema was dominated by French and Italian comedies, slapstick shorts were being made everywhere. Even Germany developed a field of fine comedians, lead by the great Ernst Lubitsch. Also featured are the circus graduate Karl Valentin, and the cabaret performer Karoly Huzar, who later found fame in American shorts as Charles Puffy.
