Diana Merrick lives her life to the fullest, even if it means flouting social convention. She is in love with the patrician Neville and they plan to marry, but his buttoned-up family shuns Diana and forbids the marriage. On the rebound, Diana marries her brother’s friend David—and she doesn’t find out about his dark past until their honeymoon in France. A career thief, David is soon tracked down by the authorities, and he commits suicide to avoid capture. Diana returns home, where she still longs for Neville.
