In the Cold War drama, Dr. John Marlowe, a celebrated American surgeon on vacation in England, is tricked into traveling to the fictional country of Vosnia to perform an operation on the very ill dictator. When the dictator dies, the Vosnian secret police force tries to keep the tragedy secret by putting a look-alike in power. As one of the only witnesses to the deception, Marlowe soon finds himself a hunted man.
