The first Catalan-language film released after Franco’s death, The Burned City centers on a bourgeois family dragged into the bloody confrontation between the Spanish army and the working classes of Barcelona in July 1909, a conflict sparked by the calling up of reserve troops for Spain’s military-colonial campaign in Morocco.
