Strangers in the Night. 1944. USA. Directed by Anthony Mann. With William Terry, Virginia Grey, Helene Thimig. DCP. 53 min.
Anthony Mann was still a young theater director finding his way in Hollywood when he made this modest programmer for Republic—a gothic thriller with William Terry as a returning soldier who goes in search of the young woman with whom he has been corresponding from the front, only to find a decaying seaside mansion inhabited by an eccentric old woman (Helene Thimig). With the help of the town doctor (the indefatigable Virginia Grey), he goes in search of his missing dream girl.
