Players vs. ángeles caídos (Players vs. Fallen Angels). 1968. Argentina. Written and directed by Alberto Fischerman. With Luis Barrón, Leonor Galindo, Gioia Fiorentino. In Spanish; English subtitles. 84 min.
“Improvisation, song, the ghosts of vintage fiction, and occasional quotes from The Tempest make a kind of Prospero’s Island out of an abandoned film studio where two groups—those in light, and those in the shadows—vie for dominance. Players vs. Fallen Angels seemed like a bolt out of the blue when it played to mostly underground audiences in 1968—many of the cast and crew ended up disappeared during the military regime—and even today it remains grippingly experimental and urgent to young filmmakers” (Edgardo Cozarinsky).
