Fazil. 1928. USA. Directed by Howard Hawks. With Charles Farrell, Geta Nissen, Mae Busch. 75 min.
Fazil is a riot of miscasting, from all-American Charles Farrell as a moody Arab prince and Swedish bombshell Greta Nissen as the elegant Parisienne who loves him, up to embattled director Howard Hawks, who seems to be experimenting with a gauzy, Sternbergian style (the year after he collaborated on the script of Sternberg’s Underworld) totally at odds with his pragmatic personality. Organ accompaniment by Ben Model.
