The Paradine Case. 1947. USA. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Screenplay by David O. Selznick, based on the novel by Robert Hichens. With Gregory Peck, Ann Todd, Charles Laughton. 35mm. 114 min.
Barrister Gregory Peck defends an alluring woman (Alida Valli) accused of poisoning her husband. Hitchcock states, “Let’s go over more of the apparent flaws of that picture. First of all, I don’t think that Gregory Peck can properly represent an English lawyer.” Truffaut asks, “Whom would you have chosen?” Hitchcock replies, “I would have brought in Laurence Olivier. I also considered Ronald Colman for the part.”
