The final performance intervention in *Club 57’*s galleries taps into the Club’s exhibition history with an afternoon of images and music reprising the multimedia event Pictures You Can Dance Too. In the 1980 one-night-only affair, 35mm projectors beamed slides by six photographers onto every wall of the Club while No Wave DJs Sean Cassette and Sara Salir spun records. The rhythmic mix of imagery and sound, exemplary of Downtown’s interdisciplinary scene, was heightened by the diverse artistic styles displayed—from abstraction to scene portraiture, personal portraits, and hand-manipulated assemblages—and above all was brought to life by the social aspect of the event. This evocation of Pictures features a viewing period and a set by Salir, along with presentations by participating artists George Haas, Trix Rosen, and Harvey Wang, whose original slideshows are on view in the exhibition.
