Toru Takemitsu composed one of his most haunting scores, “[raising] goosebumps with Xenakis-like string glissandos and electronic noise” (Alex Ross, The Rest Is Noise), for this legendary collaboration with the Japanese author Kōbō Abe and filmmaker Hiroshi Teshigahara.
