3:10 to Yuma. 1957. USA. Directed by Delmer Daves. Screenplay by Halsted Welles, based on a story by Elmore Leonard. With Glen Ford, Van Heflin, Felicia Farr. 35mm. 92 min.
Desperate to save his failing ranch, Dan Evans (Van Heflin) is hired by a stagecoach line to escort a convicted criminal to the 3:10 train to Yuma. It is not in Evans nature to be dictatorial or menacing, but he has a tough assignment and a crafty charge. Ben Wade (Glenn Ford), the smooth, cajoling outlaw, tries to turn Dan to his side, but Dan is fixed on meeting the train and getting Ben on it without shooting him or getting shot. (James Mangold remade the film in 2007 with Christan Bale and Russell Crowe.)
