Katie Holstrom, a young Swedish American woman, leaves her small town to travel to the big city to study nursing. Along the way a trusted employee steals her money, and the independent Katie refuses to ask her family to help. Instead, she becomes a maid in the home of US Representative Glenn Morley and his mother, Agatha. The outspoken Katie uses her common sense to resolve many of the issues that the Morleys get bogged down in. Loretta Young won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as Katie Holstrom.
