Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire star as the famous dancing couple Vernon and Irene Castle, who appeared in silent films and on Broadway in the early 20th century and are sometimes credited for the rise in social dancing in the US. On screen, Astaire and Rogers meet cute when Irene Foote cajoles British vaudevillian Vernon Castle into becoming a ballroom dancer. Years later, when the now-married pair find themselves stranded in Paris, they unexpectedly get their big break dancing at the Café de Paris.
