El rincón de las vírgenes (Nest of Virgins). 1972. Mexico. Written and directed by Alberto Isaac. With Emilio Fernández, Alfonso Arau, Carmen Salinas. DCP. In Spanish; English subtitles. 98 min.

As fashions changed and the economics of Mexican cinema constricted, Fernández returned to his acting career in the late 1950s, playing banditos and corrupt army officers in American movies like The Wild Bunch and The War Wagon, and eccentric, patriarchal figures in Mexican films. In this rollicking folk comedy adapted from stories by Juan Rulfo, he plays a fradulent folk healer who travels the countryside with his fast-talking partner (Alfonso Arau).
