The old Hollisport mansion in Louisiana is crumbling around its sole occupant, Charlotte Hollis. Velma the housekeeper comes by weekly, as does Dr. Bayliss, Charlotte’s longtime friend. Hollisport has been Charlotte’s home for her entire life, except for the time she lived in London, after the murder of her married lover, John Mayhew. The murder was never solved and some of the townsfolk think a spurned Charlotte killed John when he reneged on a promised elopement.
