In order to make ends meet during WWII, Anne Hilton opens her home to two lodgers. Her husband is away at war and she endeavors to keep her family—including daughters Jane and Bridget—together in spite of many deprivations. A handsome Naval officer, Lt. Tony Willett, has always been in love with Anne but kept his feelings to himself. Now that Anne’s husband is away at war, Tony, rightly or wrongly, showers her with attention.
