Visages, Villages (Faces, Places). 2017. France. Directed by Agnès Varda and JR. DCP. 89 min.
Agnes Varda and JR, artists separated by generations but joined by a profound sense of humanity, have created an essential documentary for our time. Celebrating the unseen rural communities in France, and the remarkable individuals whose stories have been overlooked and erased, these two artists lovingly bridge a human divide. Having pre-acquired the film for MoMA's collection, we are thrilled to have helped bring their critically important (and beautifully rendered) vision to light, and to share it with audiences around the world.
