Among Antonioni’s many disconsolate wanderers—the worker in I vinti, the journalist in *The Passenger*—only one is a movie director. In Identification of a Woman, this filmmaker searches for a lead actress for his next film and “confuses the women he meets in real life with those he meets in his imagination.”
