Zabriskie Point. 1970. USA. Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. Screenplay by Antonioni, Sam Shepard, Tonino Guerra, Clare Peploe, Franco Rossetti. With Mark Frechette, Daria Halprin, Paul Fix. 35mm. 111 min.
Zabriskie Point has lost none of its terrible destructive beauty or violent eroticism, and although the wildly over-budget Hollywood production nearly bankrupted MGM, Antonioni’s apocalyptic vision nonetheless seems to speak as much to the rage and fear in the world today as it did to America’s indelible generation of student radicals and dropouts during the Vietnam War.
