Join us for a conversation with legendary photographer Jamel Shabazz about the key role fashion plays in his work and in mediating culture and society. Moderated by Michelle Millar Fisher, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Architecture and Design.
Jamel Shabazz is best known for his iconic photographs of New York City during the 1980s. A documentary, fashion, and street photographer, he picked up his first camera nearly 40 years ago. He has produced eight monographs—Back in the Days, The Last Sunday in June, A Time before Crack, Seconds of My Life, The Remix, Represent, Pieces of a Man, and *Sights in the City*—and has contributed to over three dozen other photography-related books. Shabazz has worked with young students at the Studio Museum in Harlem as part of the Expanding the Walls Project, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture's Teen Curators program, the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and the Mural Arts program in Philadelphia.
This program meets in the People's Studio.
