Personal Shopper. 2016. France/Germany/Czech Republic/Belgium. Directed by Olivier Assayas. DCP. 105 min.
A rich, strange mix of Hitchcockian thriller and ghost story, Personal Shopper involves a young woman in Paris coping with the sudden death of her twin brother, who may or may not be communicating with her from the afterlife, and with her own splintering identity. This reteaming of French filmmaker Olivier Assayas (Irma Vep, Clouds of Sils Maria) and actress Kristen Stewart draws out unforeseen and riveting talents in each, and leaves us hungering for more.
