Few artists of the 20th century were able to convey the irrationality of World War I more inventively than Max Ernst. Through new techniques such as frottage (rubbings) and key contributions to the languages of Dadaism and Surrealism, Ernst articulated a unique vision of the world that addressed the destruction ushered in by 20th-century warfare. Join us in exploring the richness of his long career with stunning examples drawn from MoMA's collection.
