A public gallery talk focused on Ian Cheng: Emissaries, presented by curatorial intern Emily Hirschtick. Ian Cheng’s large-scale simulations explore human behavior and agency, investigating the potential for randomness within the realm of the programmed. Hirschtick connects Cheng’s simulations to the social consequences of what he terms “inner fictions,” or the stories we allow to shape our reality. From conceptual art to modern identity politics, Hirschtick examines the history of simulations, virtual reality, and the infinite games we choose to play.
Emily Hirschtick is a summer 2017 curatorial intern at MoMA PS1, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Parsons the New School for Design.
