Sunday Sessions presents a screening of Shūji Terayama’s feature film Throw Away Your Books, Rally In the Streets, 1971. The screening is presented in conjunction with Rotting Wood, the Dripping Word: Shūji Terayama’s Kegawa no Marii, the 2016 Sunday Sessions Commission conceived by Tobias Madison and Matthew Lutz-Kinoy.

An experimental drama, Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets, charts the journey of a disillusioned young man as he leaves his family and takes to the streets. A metaphor for the rise of materialism in Japan during the second half of the 20th century, the story is inter-cut with psychedelic and energetic vignettes.
