The New Yorker’s Peter Schjeldahl recently described Robert Rauschenberg as “a great artist” who “made remarkably little good art.” What might this provocative statement tell us about Rauschenberg’s perspective on process vs. product? In this session, we will explore Rauschenberg’s collaborations with musicians, choreographers, and scientists; his unique approach to materials, from bed sheets to synthetic mud; and his radical redefinition of authorship.
This session is led by Lauren Kaplan.
