Marking the end of Laboratory For Freedoms, MoMA PS1’s residency with the artist-run political action committee For Freedoms, Truthworker Theatre Company will perform excerpts from their provocative three-part body of work that addresses the prison industrial complex and youth impacted by mass incarceration. The performances are comprised of original hip-hop theater productions, moving from the school-to-prison pipeline and youth criminalization, through the impacts and practices of solitary confinement, and into re-entry upon release. Truthworker’s deeply personal performances, directed by Samara Gaev, combine rhyme, hip-hop theater, dance, multimedia, and personal testimony to interrupt and transform the systems that permeate our communities.
This performance will be followed by an interactive workshop and community dialogue with the artists and director.
