To Catch a Thief. 1955. USA. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Screenplay by John Michael Hayes, based on a novel by David Dodge. 106 min.
With Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis, John Williams. Hitchcock couldn’t have imagined making To Catch a Thief with anyone else in the lead. Grant, as retired, reformed thief John “the Cat” Robie is agile, alluring, and almost as attractive as his dazzling costar, Grace Kelly. The cat-and-mouse game between the two stars is enchanting and the dialogue is one long verbal flirt session. The best line of all is Kelly’s invitation to Grant: "To see the fireworks, it’s better with the lights off."
