Wolf and Sheep. 2016. Denmark, France, Sweden, Afghanistan. Directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat. 86 min.
Winner of an Art Cinema Award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, this hybrid film by Afghanistan’s first female feature director mixes narrative, ethnography, and a bit of magical realism to portray life in an Afghani shepherd community. Inspired by the director’s teenage years in a similar remote village, the film uses non-actors to translate “everyday life” to the screen.
