PopRally celebrates The Contenders 2016 with a special screening of Don’t Blink, an intimate portrait of one of photography’s greatest artists, Robert Frank. The screening will be followed by a conversation between MoMA curator Josh Siegel and Frank’s longtime editor and friend, filmmaker Laura Israel. Stick around after the film for music, beer and wine, and more conversation.
Please note: This event is part of the PopRally program and regular film ticketing policies do not apply. There will be no additional tickets released for this special screening. You must be 21 or older to attend this event.
Don’t Blink: Robert Frank. 2015. USA. Directed by Laura Israel. 82 min.
Still wise and irreverent at 92, Frank received his first museum exposure in Edward Steichen’s 1950 MoMA group show Photographs by 51 Photographers. Since then, the Museum has become a major repository of his photographs, including one of the world’s largest holdings of gelatin silver prints from his seminal book The Americans. In recognition of MoMA’s recent acquisition of the Robert Frank film collection, The Contenders presents this wonderful and revealing new documentary profile of an artist who always preferred to express himself through his pictures and films.
