In this version of Hugo’s timeless tale of beauty, the beast, and the cathedral of Notre Dame, Anthony Quinn plays the sad Quasimodo as more human and less monstrous. He is a victim of failed physiognomy and a malicious world. When the tambourine-playing Esmeralda enchants Quasimodo, he is transformed.

This film accompanies Modern Matinees: Le Grandi Donne.
