Twenty-something Pepi’s plan to auction off her virginity to the highest bidder is thwarted when a corrupt cop rapes her during a marijuana raid. Enraged by the assault, Pepi, played by Almodóvar’s early muse Carmen Maura, teams up with rocker friend Luci to lure the cop’s reserved wife, Bom, into their social circle. It doesn’t take long for Bom to embrace a new lifestyle and unleash her inner masochistic lesbian. Made a few years after the end of the repressive Franco era, Almodóvar’s first feature brims with a youthful and rebellious spirit. Look out for Almodóvar’s cameo in a hilarious “general erection” contest scene!
