Morbid, savage, and gruesome, Taymor’s take on Titus Andronicus contains cannibalism, explorations of the Oedipus complex, and lusty betrayals across the kingdom. This wildly creative film envisions Titus’s troops as radical Futurists looking as if they stepped out of a Giacomo Balla painting. Anthony Hopkins’s King Titus is war weary, aged, and fed up with intrigue and trickery. Queen Tamora is a desirable partner, but Titus knows she is fully immersed in secrecy, maneuvering, and deception, especially when it comes to her sons.

This film accompanies Breaking Bard: Shakespeare on Film.
