Un taxi pour Tobrouk (Taxi for Tobruk). 1961. France/Spain/West Germany. Directed by Denys de la Patellière. Screenplay by Michel Audiard, René Havard, Patellière. With Hardy Krüger, Lino Ventura, Charles Aznavour. 95 min.
Lost in the deserts of Lybia, a French commando unit struggles to find the road to the battlefield of El-Alamein, unsure whether their German prisoner (Hardy Kruger) is with them or against them. This grim, almost nihilistic anti-war parable became a huge box-office success in a France grown tired of the war in Algeria.
