Passe ton bac d’abord (Graduate First). 1978. France/Canada. Written and directed by Maurice Pialat. With Sabine Haudepin, Philippe Marlaud, Annick Alane. In French; English subtitles. 86 min.

A group of working-class schoolmates in 1970s Lens, a provincial town in northern France, enjoy their last days of reckless abandon before facing a future with no prospects. Graduate First is a loose sequel to Pialat’s debut film, Naked Childhood, depicting the kind of lost generation that even in today’s Europe seems all-too familiar.
