Born Yesterday. 1950. USA. Directed by George Cukor. Screenplay by Albert Mannheimer, based on the play by Garson Kanin. With Judy Holliday, William Holden, Broderick Crawford. 103 min.
Sit down and get ready to watch one of the funniest movies ever! Holliday reprises her Broadway role as Billie Dawn, the rough-around-the-edges mistress of the uncouth Harry Brock, who drags Billie to Washington, D.C., in his quest to “buy” a Congressman. Billie looks good on Brock’s arm, but when she opens her mouth, not much of any intelligence comes out. Brock puts reporter Paul Verrall on the payroll to teach Billie elocution and American history and, lo and behold, natural student Billie turns the tables on Brock’s big scam.
