With Laurel and Hardy, Anita Garvin, Thelma Hill. McCarey is credited with first noticing and developing the rapport between Laurel and Hardy, and it was his close work with the comic genius Stan Laurel that created the rich interplay and psychological nuance that defined perhaps the best-loved comedy team of all time.
